Breath Lavender Essential Oil to Relieve Stress
We have all experience times when we feel stressed because you are worried about things not being perfect in your life. We find ourselves dwelling upon something someone said or did that didn’t feel good to us.
We replay the situation over and over in our head as we are lying in bed and that makes it hard for us to fall asleep. And we stress about how we should have reacted or how their words or actions will affect our working or living with them in the following days, weeks, and months to come.
There are many ways to change this time of unrest to a time to sleep.
When I can’t sleep, the first thing I do is reach for a bottle of Lavender Essential Oil and rub a drop under my nose, or just sniff it in the bottle. This involves moving a bit, bringing me back into my body and out the places my mind has been wandering. I then take deep breathes in, while focusing on walking in a beautiful garden or forest.
If this simple step doesn’t work, you can get up and do something that will take your mind away from worrying. Sometimes just getting up, getting a glass of water is enough to shift your mind away from the worrying place it is in.
Try turning on a light and sitting up in bed for a bit of mental distraction to a more pleasant train of thought. Reach for a book and read a chapter or two, something pleasant and relaxing, preferably not a mystery that will keep you wanting to read longer. Try reciting or reading a favorite poem or a meditation mantra.
Take a moment to look a beautiful painting on your wall or photo of your family. Use these visual prompts to redirect your mind to the good things you have in your life and to let go of what is concerning you. Soon you should be able to lay back down and fall asleep with a more pleasant focus for your thoughts.
If I am having a mental conflict, I will turn off the lights, get comfortable and massage a bit Lavender Essential Oil on my temples. When you massage the oil on your temples the aroma helps ease your mind. You can feel tension leave your constricted muscles and that will help relax the areas around your eyes and neck to help you drift back to sleep.
